About the Artist:
(Artist Bio)
My name’s Matt, and I’m an artist and children’s book illustrator from Portland, Oregon. I’m the illustrator of the picture books Cut!, written by CE Winters (Greenwillow / HarperCollins); My Cat Does Ballet, written by Robert Heidbreder (Atheneum / Simon & Schuster); the Cosmic Collisions series by Dr. Marc Kuchner (Candlewick / MIT Press); and Star and the Maestro by Thor Hanson (Greenwillow / HarperCollins). I’m also the illustrator of the chapter books The Tontine Caper by Dianne K. Salerni and The Islands of Elsewhere by Heather Fawcett, among others. My paintings and drawings have been exhibited at Nucleus and Nucleus House galleries in Portland, both in solo and group exhibitions, and I was awarded the Regional Arts and Culture Council‘s Catalyst grant in 2020. I received a degree in art from the University of Oregon in 2015, and worked as a graphic designer before switching focus to book illustration and fine art.
