About the Artwork:
This artwork serves as an allegory for protection. Whether a person, an object, a concept or a behavior, the protector can both help or harm its subject. The union of a snake and a cactus results in a creature that is both threatening and beautiful, reflecting the duality of its role.
The woman lies in a fetal position, in the midst of her protector’s embrace. While the outward pointing thorns ward off danger, the same thorns fold back inwards as well. The thicker the layers of safety, the harder it becomes to break away. – Myriam Wares
