About the Artwork:
“In the Shadows explores the intricate and fragile relationship between animals and the natural world. The mammal’s body intertwines with flora and fauna, blurring the lines between creature and environment, symbolizing their inextricable connection in the ecosystem. A possum is one mammal who is often overlooked, playing a critical role in maintaining ecological balance. They are essential players in our ecosystems, acting as both seed dispersers for plant growth and pest regulators. I invite the viewer to reconsider the ways in which we perceive and protect native species, recognizing that to lose one part is to lose the whole.” – Rachel Favelle

(Aritst Bio)
Rachel Favelle is a Pop Surreal artist and illustrator. Her work is inspired by the Australian flora and fauna that she encountered while growing up in the country.
Her fantastical imaginings emerge in meticulously rendered oils paintings, drawings and sculptures that whisk the viewers away to other-wordly places.
Rachel’s work highlights the beauty of nature and the importance of childhood imagination while providing pressing commentary on wildlife conservation.
In her words: “Children have an instinctive curiosity when it comes to nature, I want people to revisit this experience in order to think more deeply about how they engage with their surroundings.”
