About the Artwork:
Domestication explores the tension between the immersive awe of nature and the curated, digitised experience of it. As technology increasingly mediates our lives, are we simply becoming passive observers rather than participants? In losing our direct connection to the living systems that sustain us, do we lose part of ourselves? Is this disconnection enabling environmental degradation? Can we protect what we cannot see as part of ourselves? – Jack Caldow

(Artist Bio)
Jack Caldow is a self-taught artist born in 1998, Australia. He studied medical and environmental sciences at university and currently works as a high school science, English, humanities and religion teacher. Through art he communicates ideas from his scientific studies, experiences, and love for the natural world. The practice of continuously experimenting keeps his artistic spark alive as he strives to find new forms of communication. His goal is to re-frame classically religious art themes of gratitude, awe and connection through a modern secular lens.
