About the Artwork:

While driving back from the hardware store for the third time one day, I was absolutely enchanted by the clouds settling over this Bay Area Rapid Transit stop. I was thinking a lot about the invisible work that goes into maintaining one life (mine, and by extension, the lives of my children), let alone the amount of invisible labor that goes into maintaining a massive transit system. It made me wonder about what an ancient gods of that labor might look and feel like, something like the furies or the fates. A Flock of Burdens, to keep us all going. – Kate Balfe

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

I grew up in Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of an American Mom and a British Dad. I attended Sheridan college in Oakville (briefly) before transferring to the Emily Carr University of Art and Design, where I earned a degree in Classical Animation. I have worked in the game and entertainment industry as a designer, concept artist, and art director. I art directed the Award Winning VR film “Arden’s wake,” which won the first Venice Film Festival Lion ever to be granted to a VR project. I’ve always had a fine art practice but have devoted myself to it full time for the last 18 months.
