About the Artwork:
“I first met this fun loving Cockapoo whose name is Cooper, at a Christmas family gathering a couple of years back. I had heard all sorts of stories about this fuzzy hound, from cute and heartwarming tales to his little naughty tendencies as a puppy, and had been secretly excited to meet this new family friend. I spent the afternoon trying to catch his attention with some of the brand new Christmas toys he had been presented with and managed to play a bit of tug of war with him before he got distracted and galloped off like a silly little pony. This is a portrait of Cooper on the window seat of his home, framed by the long draping curtains and subtly casted with late afternoon light and shadows.
I haven’t seen him again since that afternoon, but every now and then, still hear funny accounts about this four legged friend.” – Jolene Lai

(Artist Bio)
Jolene Lai is a Los Angeles-based artist and illustrator born and raised in Singapore. After studying painting at Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts in Singapore, Jolene studied graphic design at UCLA and spent a year working at movie-poster design house, The Refinery Creative, before returning to focus on fine art.
She works primarily with oil on canvas or mixed media on water color paper. With bold use of color, shape and intricate detail, she creates images with a seductive aesthetic and subject matter that weaves in emotions of whimsy, melancholy, irony and absurdity.
Lai seeks to engage her audience in works that are approachable, newly imagined spaces that the viewer is invited to explore on their own terms.
