About the Artwork:

“The White Sphinx, delicate and graceful but also monstrous and dangerous. Is there someone able to solve her riddles? Is there someone able to understand her enigmatic soul? Many have tried and perished, it’s hard to stay alive in her cruel world.” – Nicoletta Ceccoli

About the Artist:

Born in 1973 in the Republic of San Marino, Nicoletta studied animation at the Art Institute of Urbino. She was selected to exhibit at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair seven times. This led her to work with international publishers such as Mondadori , Feltrinelli, Random House, Soleil, Macmillan,Simon and Shuster.

In 2001 she won the ‘Andersen Baia delle Favole’ award for best illustrator. In 2006 the silver medal at the Society of Illustrators in New York.

Nicoletta illustrated more than thirty children’s picture books, she also created advertising illustrations for Macy and United Airlines and the design for an animation film in France ‘La mechanique du Coeur’ produced by Luc Besson and directed by Mathias Meltzieau and Stephane Berla. Her work is also appreciated in the fine art world and she has exhibited both in european and US galleries. Amongst her last personal exhibitions, those of 2016 by AFA gallery in New York and by Corey Helford gallery in 2017 in Los Angeles . Nicoletta explores emotionally complex themes, innocence, sexuality, love and loss. Her works are poetic and disturbing, they play with contradictions, they are like the dark side of a nursery rhyme, a dream of lovely things with a hint of darkness.
