About the Artwork:
“Six pallbearers carry death into the sea. Rather than a casket, together they hold a large burning tree, so grand is it that it does not fit entirely into the canvas. Lockstep, they are choreographed both in movement and in form as they wear matching Barongs, the Filipino traditional formal wear. The scene is dim, and the light source is obscure. One might quantify its origin being the fire from the tree. And now we question if the fire will take the pallbearers lives. Is this their funeral?” – Leonardo Santamaria
