Laura Berger is an artist and illustrator who is currently living and working in Chicago. Berger is primarily a painter and her preferred mediums are gouache and acrylic, although she also enjoys creating things out of clay and making little animations. Her work is focused on exploring our connections to ourselves and each other, and the idea of finding novelty and adventure in everyday life. Berger is continually interested in and inspired by rituals, symbols, nature, dreams, travel, our quest for self- development, and how we piece it all together to create personal meaning and a sense of belonging to the greater whole.

“Everything can be inspiring, even hard things that happen to us. I think we kind of soak up things that we experience and they become part of our inner fabric & lay a groundwork for creating. I’m inspired by colors, patterns, textiles, animals, plants, traveling, food, textures, interactions I have with people, books I’m reading, music, etc. I also seem to get a lot of ideas when I’m about to fall asleep or when I’m meditating, doing yoga, or driving long distances. I think those sort of semi-conscious, zoned-out states are really helpful to creativity; turning off our conscious brains and tuning in to that really free part of our minds.” – Laura Berger (Schmancy Toys)
